THE WAY WE COOK

JOEY Restaurants gets inspired

MADE IN MOROCCO: HOSPITALITY BEYOND BORDER

Travel makes you appreciate great hospitality. It takes that extra something to make strangers comfortable outside their comfort zone. Every few years JOEY chefs travel the globe to feast on culture—to meet people, eat and drink and learn. It’s all part of our dedication to discovering cuisine and iconic guest experiences.

Recently the JOEY Restaurants team as part of Paradine traveled to Marrakech to explore the sensory-rich markets. Between spice tasting and navigating crowded back alleys, curious locals would introduce themselves and dive into warm conversation.

A couple nights they even invited us back to their homes. It was Ramadan and they’d been fasting all day. As we talked, they fed us homemade soup and bread, their welcoming generosity unlike anywhere we’d experienced before. That sense of care is genuine and present everywhere. We visited a tent city in the desert where every detail was considered, from pillowy rooms with plush linens to desert plumbing. Among towering mounds of sand, we connected over elaborate tea ceremonies, earthen-oven baked breads and platters of roasted lamb.

Traveling to Morocco gave us a new appreciation for creating guest experiences. It reminded us to take pride in what we do, because our job is to make people feel good. And that feeling is universal.

"It reminded us to take pride in what we do, because our job is to make people feel good. "
